Why use SIM Analyzer?
Nearly 80% of the cell phones in today's market use the GSM communications protocol. Unlike CDMA phones, GSM
phones use a small card known as a Subscriber Identity Module or SIM. This card holds important information that needs
special software to get at it's contents. SIM Analyzer has that ability and more!
What can SIM analyzer do?
Recover Last Number Dialed, Abbreviated Dialing Numbers, Active and Deleted text (SMS) messages, just to name a few.
SIM Analyzer takes the ease of use formula that works so well with Cell Phone Analyzer, and applies it even further. In just
a few steps SIM Analyzer will have your SIM card processed and your report created, ready for the next assignment or SIM
card.
But that's not all! SIM Analyzer also let's you re-analyze the contents of the original SIM card, even after the actual physical
SIM is no longer available. After SIM Analyzer processes your SIM card two data files are created, a plain text data file and
an encrypted data file. Both the same contents, but both used for two different reasons.
The plain text data file or ".BKFD" file holds all the raw data that was read from the SIM during analysis. Plain text, not
proprietary, ready to be read by any application capable of interpreting SIM card records and files.
The next file, ".BKFE" file is an encrypted version of the plain text data file but with some extra info. This encrypted file is
injected with an MD5 hash value which is used to validate the file during the decryption process. This is extremely
important when legal proceedings are involved.
SIM Analyzer recovers all the general files found in the Telecom group as defined in the GSM 11.11v6 standards. In
addition to the Telecom group, more data is pulled from the GSM file group.
Did you know SMS comes in different flavors?
SIM Analyzer is prepared for the international! In America we use the standard character set from the ASCII charts, but it
would be rather presumptuous of us to stop there. SIM Analyzer displays all SMS and EMS messages in 3 different
variations. 7-bit ASCII, 8-bit ASCII and 16-bit UCS2. This allows your final report to show Arabic for example. There is one
more section added to the end of each SMS record - Hex. The Hex section allows you to copy and paste the actual
message portion of the SMS, minus any header information. This data can then be pasted into any application you might
be using, in case you want to verify your results.
SIM analyzer has a big brother
SIM Analyzer comes in a Standard version and a Pro version. The Pro version comes with a SC/PC compliant USB SIM
card reader and (4) BKForensics, LLC Admin SIM cards. These are special SIM cards that let you take your IMSI and
ICCID values from your source SIM and write them to our BKForensics, LLC Admin cards.
What if I have a phone with a missing SIM card?
SIM Analyzer Pro allows you to manually enter the ICCID and IMSI values. There are "Flasher" phone box's on the market;
HWK, UFS, Twister, for example, that can get you a flash dump or binary dump of the phones contents. This data will often
have the last known or inserted SIM card details (IMSI and ICCID).
What do I do with these "special" Admin SIM cards?
Cell phones use the IMSI, ICCID and Ki to authenticate onto their providers network. Without this authentication the mobile
phone can not receive and make phone calls. Nor can it send or receive SMS. In today's security aware world, privacy is
very important. Many cell phone providers have the ability to protect their customers in the event their cell phone is lost or
stolen. Should the customer contact their cell phone provider and report their phone stolen (while you have it) you could
risk losing all contacts from that phone!
By running our "Safe SIM" feature using our BKForensics, LLC Admin SIM card - you can keep the phone off the network -
preventing silent "Kill" codes from coming down from the cell phone provider and deleting potentially important information.
But that's not all! A secondary benefit of this feature is preserving data. Another security feature cell phone manufactures
have added is the detection of "foreign" SIM cards in a phone. If the cell phone detects a different SIM card in the phone
than the one that was previously used, all Call Detail Logs are DELETED!
Using our BKForensics, LLC Admin cards you can rest assured that your Call Detail Logs will be preserved!
How do i know what aPDU commands are being sent to the SIM Card?
SIM Analyzer creates a standard and detailed (user option) log file. The detailed version contains the exact APDU
command sent to the SIM card. This is done to remove any question what commands where sent to your sensitive
evidence or source SIM card. No hidden "black box" commands used in SIM Analyzer.
SIM Analyzer is Read-Only. What this means is only "READ" commands are sent to the SIM card when accessing any
records, either Binary or Fixed Linear.
Where do i get SIM Analyzer and SIM analyzer Pro?
We want you to try our software before you buy. You can download the full working version here. The only difference are
some peskie Dots that get inserted into parts of the report.
